The N/Rt is slated for nerfing by Izzy next skill balance so don't get to hooked on it.

This also means we should be looking for the best alternative healer to the N/Rt now and I am not sure it should be a Monk primary, perhaps a Paragon/Mo hybrid would be a better choice.

For PvP, I couldn't answer this question. For PvE however, I'd stick with the monk henchmen. They have great builds and know how to use them, unlike heros, where they may have a great build, but use them wrong.

i will have to agree that [skill]Blessed Light[/skill] drain too much energy, but i would say use it in a mission/situation where foes spamming condition and hex too frequently...

i notice that canthan hench healer have BL as their elite....

The build I've been using to vanquish Cantha is a N/Mo prot monk.
Max SR + 1 SR on headgear so: 14 Soul Reaping 12 Protection 3 whatever
+5e 20% longer ench martial weapon & bison champion cup (or some other focus ifyou want). Tormentor's Insignia. (I like higher armor values).

My Character57

Necromancer/Monk
Level: 20

Soul Reaping: 14 (12+2)
Healing Prayers: 3
Protection Prayers: 12

Shield of Regeneration [Elite] (Protection Prayers)
Protective Spirit (Protection Prayers)
Reversal of Fortune (Protection Prayers)
Shield of Absorption (Protection Prayers)
Guardian (Protection Prayers)
Extinguish (Protection Prayers)
Convert Hexes (Protection Prayers)
Resurrection Chant (Healing Prayers)

This hero works like a charm to keep nasty conditions like party burning and party disease from pressuring the party, and the SoR returns around 220+ health when 20% longer ench is in effect. And - the N/Mo wont' run low on energy, so he'll spamm it around.

Notice - these are mostly high energy spells. There is no way a monk hero could do all this stuff.

Here's the catch - you MUST be able to kill stuff. It might not work so well in GWEN where there are heavy heals. Bottom line is this, in PvE 12 prot versus 16 prot isn't that big of a deal, and the 20% longer ench will be much more valuable than a few more points in prot. In order to feed the N/Mo energy pool, I bring a SH fire nuker with Mark of Rodg, meteor shower, firestorm, fireball. Lots of big hit AOE spells. Couple that with a bomber who creates a body block situation, and the monsters can't escape the AOE, when they kill the minion, they get a 100+ damage poisoning armor ignoring blast. Things die quickly.
My Character56

Necromancer/Monk
Level: 20

Soul Reaping: 11 (10+1)
Blood Magic: 9 (8+1)
Death Magic: 16 (12+4)
Healing Prayers: 2

Blood Ritual (Blood Magic)
Dark Bond (Blood Magic)
Animate Bone Minions (Death Magic)
Death Nova (Death Magic)
Blood of the Master (Death Magic)
Icy Veins [Elite] (Soul Reaping)
Signet of Lost Souls (Soul Reaping)
Resurrection Chant (Healing Prayers)

Equipment is always +armor for the Necros. And a guardian henchman if I can help it. The biggest problem for H/H is always elemental damage and armor ignoring damage - especially from bosses.

My rational is this: Physical damage can often be kited or dodged (even by H/H), and it is usually limited to manageable amounts. If you are in the middle of a mob of 5+ physical damage dealers and don't have a high block or blindness skill - you messed up your aggro. Anyhow, H/H usually kite physical. They don't kite things like spirit rift, meteor shower, and they can't kite some elemental spells at all (first few hits of a firestorm, or savannah heat, or searing flames).

The best way to counteract that is high armor and solid heals. Only a paragon or a LoD monk can really help you there.

The BEST monking is done by the player - with careful flagging and even more careful aggro in hard areas. When preparing for a difficult encounter, I usually flag my heroes about 1 full aggro bubble diameter away from the mob, and then I move forward alone directly between the mob and my H/H party (nukers + minion bomber). Once the enemies spot me and attack, the minions will 99% of the time charge up and surround me, and create a wall of popcorn bombs. This protects the backline, limits most of the damage to me, and focuses the ele nukes and traps the monsters in the nukes. Mostly the enemy ele will bomb me and the minions. Oh, I'm usually playing an A/D with 75% block, 110 armor almost permanently, and almost permanent +10 regen from mystic regen, and nice AOE armor ignoring damage.

Other Notes:
GWEN henchy healer is already an LoD healer, so I usually bring him.

When heavy healing is needed, my heroes are usually P/any motivation healer (hard res), N/Mo Prot Healer (hard res), and N/Mo bomber (also a hard res). And I bring a Henchman healer (in cantha).

Super long post/rant I know but here's what I'm saying:
N/Mo is a great Prot Monk. Try it, I love it, you may also. LoD Henchy (menhlo in GW:EN) is very solid. Pure heal monk with LoD, Sig of Rejuv, Cure Hex, etc... (16 healing 13 DF rest is whatever you want) is very good. To vanquish cantha starter island I used Dunkoro with M/W and 5 tactics - found a cheap 5 tactics shield (13 armor -5/17% of time +27 health), +5e martial weapon, +10 vs elemental damage insignia, and gave him the above mentioned skills.

During party wipe situations - usually the N/Mo Prot Monk and Myself are the last ones alive, and can then kill the mob that killed the party. When there isn't a lot to have to Prot, the Prot Necro can keep themself alive against almost anything, and even toss some prot towards you. Prot necro can keep themself at this almost permanently when there's only two party members left: 115 armor 50% block +9 regen damage limited to 10% of max hp and constant reversal of fortune

I'm not sure my M/W Healer is better than a M/Me Healer/Interupter who uses interupts to replenish energy. I think it's just a different approach.

Wow - sorry for the long post. !!! GL finding your monk build.

I use two seperate builds.

Heal:
[skill]Channeling[/skill][skill]Word of Healing[/skill][skill]Orison of Healing[/skill][skill]Heal Party[/skill][skill]Remove Hex[/skill][skill]Dismiss Condition[/skill][skill]Resurrection Chant[/skill][optional]

Prot:
[skill]Channeling[/skill][skill]Shield of Regeneration[/skill][skill]Protective Spirit[/skill][skill]Shield of Absorption[/skill][skill]Remove Hex[/skill][skill]Dismiss Condition[/skill][skill]Rebirth[/skill][optional]

Notes:
-I used to use LoD in my Heal build but since its no better than Heal Party now I dropped it in favor of the newly buffed WoH. Healer's Boon is just as good.
-For whatever reason Tahlkora and ZB just don't mix. She just won't use it and I've died because of it. Also, she doesn't use Life Sheath effectively. Currently, Shield of Regen is the only elite she uses when I need it and thats probably because its idiotproof.
-The optional slot in Heal is usually Watchful Healing or Signet of Devotion. Since all my Monk heroes have Mesmer as their secondary I may also have another Inspriration spell packed in. Drain Enchantment is one of my favs.
-Watchful Healing is a personal choice. I like regen enchantments but there are just too many foes who can remove enchantments. So I use WH because I have benefit of increased health regen and insurance that I will get some healing even if its removed almost immediately.
-In the optional slot in Prot I run whatever is appropriate for the situation. In most HM situations its Spirit Bond.
-Channeling is in both builds because no matter how far away you pin your monk heroes down, in addition to being on Avoid Combat, they will get into the thick of battle.

I thought Dismiss Condition was bad for hero monks because they never use it right.

I tend to run a hybrid build on my monks:
WoH or LoD
Dwayna's Kiss
PS
Guardian
SoA
Mend Ailment
Cure Hex
Res Chant or Rebirth

The reason he posted no link is because he didn't read it in the first place.

Starting rumours ftl, it's not like Izzy could balance N/Rt if he tried anyway.

I dunno why but my N/Mo seems to be afraid to use WOH. Or he's waiting for the 50% HP mark. I hate it cause my other healing spell are slower and sometimes people die cause of it. How to force him to spam the hell out of WOH?
Being a Necro primary he has no problems with energy so maybe I would be better off usin Glimmer?

If I'm bringing two monks:
14 Heal, 10 Prot, 10 DF
[skill]Reversal of Fortune[/skill][skill]Word of Healing[/skill][skill]Dwayna's Kiss[/skill][skill]Dismiss Condition[/skill][skill]Vigorous Spirit[/skill][skill]Cure Hex[/skill][skill]Restore Life[/skill][optional]
14 Prot, 10 Heal, 10 DF
[skill]Reversal of Fortune[/skill][skill]Life Sheath[/skill][skill]Gift of Health[/skill][skill]Dismiss Condition[/skill][skill]Guardian[/skill][skill]Shield of Absorption[/skill][skill]Protective Spirit[/skill][skill]Rebirth[/skill]

If I'm bringing one monk:
14 Heal, 10 Prot, 10 DF
[skill]Reversal of Fortune[/skill][skill]Word of Healing[/skill][skill]Healing Touch[/skill][skill]Dismiss Condition[/skill][skill]Shield of Absorption[/skill][skill]Protective Spirit[/skill][skill]Cure Hex[/skill][skill]Rebirth[/skill]

Btw, I'm looking for suggestions for something to fill that optional in the first build. Don't suggest e-management, I don't have any trouble with that.
